Rolled sections, the most common cross‑section type in RFEM and RSTAB, can also have user‑defined parameters. To do this, select the cross‑section to be modified in the cross‑section library and click the [Parametric Input...] button.
If you want to consider guide objects in the overall view (F8 key or double-click on the mouse wheel) or, for example, in a particular direction of the views, you can enable this option in the settings of the particular guide objects (guidelines, background layers, line grids).
Once you have determined the final tendon geometry in RF‑TENDON, exporting the model to a CAD program can be useful. For this purpose, the module includes the option to export the file in the .dxf file format. You can select the export function by right-clicking the workspace. After selecting the DXF format and the storage location, additional settings can be made.
RFEM and RSTAB offer many display options in the Display Navigator. They can be completely different, depending on their function. You often have to click several times to make certain changes. If you want to optimize your work, you can create user‑defined views. In these views, you can save all specified settings. The following example illustrates this principle.
If you want to remove redundant nodes but keep connected objects, you can right-click the relevant node and select the "Delete Nodes" and "Merge Connected Members" options. In addition to members, you can also merge lines in RFEM.
The display size of the load vectors can be adjusted quickly in the load shortcut menu: Right-click the load icon and select "Increase Display Size" or "Reduce Display Size" from the menu.
For a clearer display of the structure, you can display it in different colors. The corresponding selection can be opened by right-clicking the work window.
The averaged internal forces from the previously defined average regions can also be used for designing concrete surfaces. To do this, click [Details] in RF‑CONCRETE Surfaces, then select the corresponding check box. This function is accessible only if you previously defined an average region.
It is necessary to design some structures in different configurations. It may be that an aerial work platform must be analyzed in its position on the ground as well as in the middle and in the extended position. Since such tasks require the creation of several models, which are almost identical, updating all the models with just one mouse click is a considerable relief.
After running an analysis in RF-/STEEL AISC, the mode shapes for sets of members can be viewed graphically in a separate window. Select the relevant set of members in the result window and click the [Mode Shapes] button.
In order to use internal forces from average regions also for the design of concrete surfaces, you have to activate them in the module. For this, click the [Details] button in the "Tools" tab and select the option "Apply the averaged internal forces in the defined average region for the ULS calculation and for the analytic method of SLS calculation."
By clicking "Options" → "Display Properties" → "Edit", you can change and save display settings for printout reports and your screen. For example, you can set individual colors for cross‑sections.
In RFEM and RSTAB, you can add user‑defined dimension lines to a structural model. When creating these dimension lines, click the objects (for example, end nodes of a line, members, and so on) that represent the reference points of the dimension. If you want to add a dimension line free from the structure previously defined in the model, you have to create an additional free "help node" that acts as a reference object for the new dimension.
With the SHAPE-THIN cross-section program, you can model the corner areas of cross-sections in detail: The "Smooth Corner" function fills the corner with an element and automatically connects it with a null element. For this, simply click the corner. Use the "Create Round or Angled Corner" function to round or angle the corner. To do this, specify the fillet radius and click both elements.
Member properties can be imported from the previously defined member in the "New Members" and "Edit Member" dialog boxes. To do this, click the [Select member and import its properties to the dialog box] button, then select the respective member.
Sometimes, a model in the graphic window is displayed without filling the entire window, or with overly large margins after clicking the [Show Whole Model] button. To set the size of the graphic margins, click "Options" → "Display Margins and Stretch Factors". The value specifies the percentage of the margin relative to the graphic window size.
The Time Course Monitor displays the results of a time history analysis from RF‑/DYNAM Pro – Forced Vibrations. The graphic can be adjusted in the settings. This can be reached by right-clicking in the shortcut menu. For example, you can activate or deactivate the grid in the graphic. Those changes are overtaken into the printout report when you print the graphic.
When you receive an RFEM or RSTAB file for further processing, the structures will be displayed in the program using the display settings of the last editor. If the settings do not correspond to your requirements, you can simply right‑click the empty area in Project Navigator - Display and select "Dlubal Standard". This returns the settings to the default values.
Click the [Details] button in RF-GLASS to select the results to be displayed. In order to get a better overview for the result evaluation, you can select the individual stress graphics (principal stresses, stresses oriented to axes, shear stresses) as well as various result windows. This way, you can show only the results you require.
As in RFEM, load combinations can be generated automatically in RF‑PIPING. This feature is activated by default and creates the recommended load and result combinations for piping design. It is necessary to assign the relevant action category to load cases in order to generate the correct combinations. To do this, new action categories have been implemented specifically for loads on piping. Pressure temperature conditions are generated as the sets of the first (second, third, and so on) load case of the "Pressure" category and the first (second, third, and so on) load case of the "Temperature" category. The default setting can be reviewed or adjusted in the "Grouping of Thermal and Internal Pressure Load Cases for Operating Combinations" dialog box. You can access this dialog box by clicking the corresponding button in the "Piping Load Combinations" tab of the "Load Cases and Combinations" dialog box. This dialog box is automatically offered to check your entries in the case of any change of the load case from the "Pressure" or "Temperature" category.
You can move and copy objects directly in the display window in order to work more efficiently. If this feature is not desired by the user, you can simply disable it. To do this, right‑click in the display window and select the "Enable Drag & Drop" entry in the shortcut menu.
You can quickly add surfaces to grates or facade elements using the "Create Surfaces from Cells" function. This function can be found under "Tools" → "Generate Model – Surfaces" and it recognizes all the cells of the entire model. Click the "Select Cells" button to select the respective cells. In addition to the material and thickness, you can specify the stiffness of all surfaces to be created.
The geometry data of an RFEM model are currently managed in 29 tables, so not all of the tabs are displayed at once. To open a particular table, we recommend using the navigation menu that you can open by right-clicking on any tab. A shortcut menu appears, where you can quickly access the desired input table.
RFEM facilitates modeling by the automatic integration of objects into surfaces. However, it is impossible to integrate the objects automatically in the case of curved surfaces. For manual integration, select the relevant surfaces and click the "Edit Surfaces" option in the shortcut menu; then, in the "Integrated" tab, you can integrate the relevant objects using the "Select" function. This way, you can avoid error messages caused by non‑integrated objects when starting the calculation.
